REANIMATOR Bicycle Workshop

The REANIMATOR Bicycle Workshop operated within MAKE Santa Fe from January 1st – August 2025. This was a place where you can repair, maintain, and build bicycles using shared tools and equipment. We offered free monthly educational workshops, used bicycle parts for sale, and weekly open shop hours. Our intention with this space was to support the neighborhood’s cycling needs and contribute to the revitalization of Santa Fe’s bicycle infrastructure.

Further investigation into this model of bicycle shop is needed – a collaboration with a pre-existing makerspace adds a multi-disciplinary approach to problem solving. Having access to an industrial sewing studio to make bicycle touring equipment, a welding studio for bicycle rack and frame fabrication, and more – wowza baby!

We also teamed up with BTI to offer wholesale bicycle parts to participants – an attempt to make components more accessible!

This was a list of the clinics we facilitated:

Intro to Wheels / Tires / Flat Fixes
In this class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of bicycle wheels and tires, including their various components and how they work together to provide a smooth ride. We’ll cover tire types, sizes, and how to choose the right one for your bike. Understanding your wheels and tires is essential for keeping your bike in top shape.

Intro to Brakes

Brakes are one of the most important safety features on a bike, and in this class, you’ll learn the basics of how they work. We’ll cover the different types of bike brakes—rim, disc, and coaster—and how each one functions. You’ll understand the mechanics of braking and what it takes to keep them in optimal condition.

Shifting Fundamentals
The shifting system on your bike allows you to easily change gears and adapt to different riding conditions. You’ll learn how to maintain your gears and keep them operating efficiently.

Dust off Your Bike
If your bike has been sitting unused for a while, it’s time to bring it back to life! This class will guide you through a basic bike tune-up, focusing on cleaning, lubricating, and checking for wear and tear. You’ll learn how to inspect the frame, wheels, and components to make sure your bike is ready for the road.
